Dejbjerg Iron Age Town | Hvidesande

Dejbjerg Iron Age Town

Venture back 2000 years ago and meet the ancestors of the Vikings

The cattle graze in the meadow and in the field, the farmer is harvesting the grain. He is using a new iron sickle, which cuts the harvest a lot more efficiently than the one made with old rocks. He looks up and spots the chieftain driving a carriage so majestic it’s almost magic. Experience how the past and the present come together in this intriguing way of telling Danish pre-history.

Dejbjerg Iron Age is the neighbour of Bundsbæk Mill and free of charge when you have a ticket for Bundsbæk Mill. Dejbjerg Iron Age comes to life during the summer, when you can experience the Iron Age people cook, tend to their animals, grow their fields, and make tools.

Dejbjerg Iron Age for Kids

Dress up like an Iron Age family, shoot a bow and arrow, help cook and try out Iron Age craftsmanship. You can also try out your archeological skills for the day and search for treasures with a metal detector, look at grain through a microscope to find out what Iron Age people ate, and much more.

Living History

Dejbjerg Iron Age is part of Ringkøbing-Skjern Museum, where you can experience history where it happened. This museum consists of a series of authentic buildings that all tell the tale of the life lived there throughout the ages and how the landscape shaped them.

At Ringkøbing-Skjern Museum, history isn’t locked up in glass cabinets. Here you get to experience LIVE HISTORY with all your senses – history reenactments, guided tours, and activities for kids. With a week or year round pass, you get a discount, by visiting several locations. Kids and teenagers under the age of 18 are free of charge when accompanying an adult. The week pass can be purchased at the different locations, and the tourist information offices in Ringkøbing and Hvide Sande.
